Our run analysis takes place over two sessions. This is necessary for us to capture, upload, and analyze all the technical data and put in document/video/photo format for you to take home.
Session #1:
Meet Mark at the Pine Knoll Area of Lake Merritt (click here for accurate meeting location). Look for our Oakland Run Lab flag and Mark wearing an Oakland Run Lab white shirt and hat.
Mark will apply the technology and you run at 3 different speeds (1 speed for each mile) around Lake Merritt (or however long you are able to run). Meet Mark back at the flag so he can then remove the tech and record video from several angles.
You can then schedule your second session with Dr. Jess (at SWEAT Gym on College) to have your orthopedic/biomechanics exam and then review the analysis.
Session #2:
Meet with Dr. Jess at SWEAT Gym on College Ave. to have your history taken, an orthopedic, range of motion, and biomechanics exam performed, and to review your run analysis. You will receive an email with all of your data, videos, and exercise prescription following the second appointment.

Please wear NON-BLACK shorts that ride at the hip level and not waist level. We need the top of your shorts to sit at your sacrum/pelvis. So please no high-rise shorts or tights. If you prefer to wear capris or long pants, please have them tight fitting and non-black for video purposes. Please wear shorts to the second appt with Dr. Jess as well. Tank tops preferred or if you are comfortable to run without a shirt for the video portion of the data collection.
- non-black shorts that are not high rise
- running shoes you typically wear for most runs
- orthotics if you wear them
- tank top or shirtless for the video portion
