Why outdoors and not a treadmill?

The treadmill has it’s time and place such as gait retraining, but to record accurate data, we want you outside, in the real world running a real route when no one is watching. The treadmill does change some of the metrics we collect so we prefer capturing your true running mechanics where you typically run. If you’d prefer to record data on a treadmill, we can accommodate your request.

Our Initial Run Analysis Service Includes:

run data on screen
  • A thorough history of all past and current injuries as well as your running history.
  • A non-stop 3 mile run (we can accommodate a shorter run if 3 miles is not an option) at 3 different speeds around Lake Merritt in Oakland. Our goal is to see when the mechanics and form breaks down when fatigued.
  • During the run we will collect the same data used in research settings. Such as:
    • Vertical Ground Reaction Forces
    • Horizonal/Braking Forces
    • Vertical Oscillation
    • Leg Spring Stiffness
    • Contact/Flight Time Ratio
    • Cadence
    • Power
    • Swing Speed
    • Pronation Excursion
    • Pronation Velocity
    • Stance Velocity
    • Shoe Print/Ride/Mapping
    • Pelvis Ride
    • Pelvis Drop
    • Pelvis Rotation
    • Pelvis Tilt
    • Foot Contact (Heel, Midfoot, Forefoot)
  • Slow Motion and Freeze Frame Video
